Sion LRC: Drones

Homepage

What is a Drone?

A drone is an unmanned aerial aircraft, normally with a ground based controller.

Originally they had a military application, but their use is rapidly finding many more applications including aerial photography, product deliveries, agriculture management, re-forestation, policing and surveillance, infrastructure inspections, science, smuggling, filmtography and drone racing.

What Drone do we have at Sion?

We have a  DJI MAVIC Air 2 drone at Sion that is used to take professional footage of the college at special events.

Civil Aviation Authority

The Civil Aviation Authority is responsible for all our "air traffic" in Australia. They manage the guidelines and propose the laws that we need to adhere to when flying drones.

Check if it is safe to fly your drone.

Aviation Reference Number

If you are serious about becoming a drone operator, you may want to apply to get your own Aviation Reference Number when flying a drone in the community. Speak to Mum and Dad first about this.
