To celebrate Book Week this year, our students were invited to design original artwork for bookmarks for the Learning Resource Centre. This year’s theme is “Reading is Magic”. We’re thrilled to share that the following students’ bookmark designs have been selected to be printed and available for everyone in the LRC. Congratulations to these talented students! The quality of entries was exceptional, making the judges' decision quite a challenge. During Book Week, the CBCA Winners and Notables will be on display for students to borrow.
“This comes with a short story. This girl was reading a wonderful book. Then she went to sleep. When she woke up, she was in her imagination and it became reality. All of the things the book described came to life! The imaginations, the different worlds. She realised that “reading is magic!” Elli Nishimura, 7 Purple
“My bookmark is trying to portray a girl under her blanket in the middle of her night reading a book. There is a bright light and a flower sprouting from the book to represent the knowledge and ‘magic’ that comes from reading books” Mia Sikos, 9 Red
“I painted mythical creatures to relate to magic, and added a little reference to literary works like Shakespeare's which can also count as stories.” Aashirya Mondal, 7 Red
“My artwork shows a girl who was reading in her bedroom, but while she was reading she literally fell into her book. This demonstrates the theme “reading is magic” because the book basically teleported her to the ocean.” Kaitlyn So, 9 Red
“The bookmark depicts a young girl reading, dropping her unseemingly magical book about unicorns when the mythical creature appears before her.” Anthea Nguyen 8 Blue
“This artwork relates to the theme “Reading is Magic” because I have drawn a book where the magical stories fall out and create different worlds of stories. This is to represent how reading can create magical imagery in your mind, which is what the girl in the drawing is imagining.” Layla Nishimura, 10 Gold
“She is an elf that does magic with her grimoire and in her crystal she can read the future. She is Imagining that she is in space and that she can touch the stars.” Ashanti Capitani, 8 Gold
“My bookmark depicts a nature giant holding a bear. This relates to the theme as while giants do not exist in the real world, they exist within the world or books and reading. This piece shows how even though things may seem impossible in this world, they become entirely possible in others.” Alessia Di Sario, 10 W
